Hello everyone! I have a lot to share with you today. The trees around here are full of white blossoms. The little flowers look so lovely when they twirl and flutter in the breeze. I have been working on a couple of paintings of these flowers. I also want to make a new quilt, so I wrote a quilt pattern as well.
One day, when it rained and pollen was not so bad, I went outside to take a photo of this delicate flower holding onto a gentle raindrop. It’s one of my favorite photos.
Fluttering Blossoms quilt pattern
Blossoms come in so many different colors. Instead of the usual pink, I picked white for mine because of the white blossoms blooming around here.
After I finished the flower, I wrote the pattern for a single petal.
This is the design of little flowers and petals twirling and fluttering in the wind that I will be making into a quilt.
You can get this Fluttering Blossoms quilt pattern from my shop. It includes both the flower and petal patterns.
That rainy day, I took a photo of this flowering branch as well. I love the contrasting green background created by the large tree that was behind it.
It all started with a simple drawing of these dainty flowers in my sketchbook. As usual, as time passed, I started to expand on the original drawing. I couldn’t really decide on one, so I made two.
Before I copied the drawings onto the papers that I would be using for the paintings, I must have practiced at least 50-60 dragonfly wings. In order for me to draw a continuous curve with the pen, I had to find the correct angles of both the paper and my hand. Those arrows on the paper are to remind myself of the start and end points.
Fluttering Blossoms everyday journals
Instead of going with traditional colors, I chose a couple of stylized color combinations. I couldn’t say no to that vibrant red, and teal is my favorite color. Once I had the colors for the flowers, the colors for the dragonflies came naturally.
I named this one Fluttering Blossoms.
Twirling Blossoms everyday journals
My husband recently requested a bullet journal. He chose this drawing with the petals for his book cover.
This one is called Twirling Blossoms.
I drew and painted all four of them individually. There were a couple of accidents which required me to restart. I will refrain from mentioning the words that were uttered at those moments.
Here are the four everyday journals with the paintings on the cover. Please Click on the image thumbnails to see the photos –
The journals are also available in my shop, as well as the quilt pattern.
Now I am off to make the journal for my husband. I may end up making a bullet journal for myself as well. I will share them when I finish.
A dear friend loves watching the spring blossoms and autumn leaves fluttering and twirling in the air. It’s very peaceful to see him enjoying the simple and ephemeral moments of nature. These little flowers always make me think of him. I hope you like them!
Until next time,
-Soma

I love the flowers and dragonflies Soma. I have both in my latest post and it is probably wrong to think this, but I think the ones you created may actually be much prettier than the real life ones. They make beautiful journal covers. I hope you get lots of pollen-free days soon so that you can check out the great outdoors for even more inspiration

First, I can see why the first image is a favorite of yours and I share your sentiments. Second, your paintings of the blossoms and the dragonflies are exquisite. But I’m totally in awe about your quilt pattern. I cannot sew at all and seeing this really amazes me. You have so many talents, Soma. All of this is so lovely. Hugs – Carola

I love seeing the blossom on the trees, it’s all gone here for this year.
Great work, absolutely beautiful!

The blossoms are beautiful and I love how you turned them into a quilt. I also love how you added colour to the blossoms for your journals and the dragon flies really work
Yvonne May 26, 2024 at 22:05
Beautiful little journal, so beautiful I ordered one to see if I can collect my thoughts in it for my sister’s birthday later in the year, and maybe a few drawings. I think the quilt design is also delicate and beautiful. Raindrops in nature are quite lovely, as your beautiful photo displays. So clever, your takes on nature.
Connie Griffin May 26, 2024 at 08:07
That is a gorgeous picture you have of the flowers, all the trees are done flowering here already :( We have had our fair share of rain this spring.
The quilt is lovely, all those different angles would be tricky.
Your journals are so lovely!
Michelle May 26, 2024 at 07:15
You are so talented! I love these flowers in all of their manifestations – paintings, quilt and journals. I am doing digital art – my first foray into drawing. I don’t have the skill to do anything free hand, because I have to correct 1000 times and pretty soon my paper has holes in it.
Bill May 26, 2024 at 02:19
I do like the process of how you came to the design you ended up with. Flowers can be so inspirational

This has been a marvelous year for the flowering trees. It seemed that one day they were bare and the next they were gloriously covered in blooms. I love all of your art today and especially the dragon fly. My favorite colors have always been blues and greens as that is most of what we see in nature, so your journal with the teal leaves and green dragon flies spoke to me. As it happens I am in need of a journal, so I have ordered one from you. I look forward to receiving it as there is nothing more precious than the personal art of a friend. I don’t quilt anymore. I only tried it once with my Granddaughter when she was in her early teens. It turned out not too bad for two beginners and it was fun, but I find I have little time for it now. Maybe again some day in which case, I will come looking for patterns :) Lovely post, Soma …

Your quilt is especially lovely. I really like the simplicity of it — everything “shows up” and doesn’t get lost with too much pattern. I don’t quilt but I am very fond of them and I look forward to seeing the finished piece. I also am very fond of your paintings and covers. The bullet journal is a great idea and that red and white is so striking with the touch of blue. It’s all lovely.

Oh my goodness, you are so talented! Everything is so beautiful. I love the journals in particular.
I really admire people who can quilt, they are such works of art and take such skill and craftsmanship!
I love quilts and have started collecting vintage quilts but I like the old worn soft ones you find at garage sales and such that are very well loved. I have one that I love but the edges are all torn and I don’t know how to fix it. I just try to be super careful with it.

I love this design. It’s bold but yet so subtle. I always find it amazing how something can be both bold and subtle. I hope you have a great weekend and thanks for sharing your flowers and this new pattern. hugs-Erika

Hi Soma ! I just left the InkTorrents shop where I placed orders for Fluttering Blossoms journals. :-) Your art, and the way you apply it to your custom journals is just the best. Leaves fluttering and twirling in the air … I love it! Another excellent post here. Thank you for sharing! John
