Summer Sailboat

Summer Sailboat Quilt Pattern | Whims And Fancies

Purchase Summer Sailboat Pattern

I love sailboats.  I see them as giant winged birds floating in the sea.  Many a year ago I even fancied taking sailing lessons.  I even had my husband teach me how to swim. However, that ended up having quite a different effect.  I became addicted to swimming and spent a lot of time at the pool.  I became a fairly decent swimmer, but the plans for learning how to sail fell by the wayside.

You see, I was going to the pool so much that my old tote bag fell apart completely.  By that time I had learned how to sew however, so I made another swimming tote bag with pockets for everything.

I still love to watch sailboats go by, their white sails surrounded by blue waters and the blue sky.  My mind drifts into a trance, punctuated by thoughts of adventure.  So, when I got a request to make a sailboat quilt pattern, I just had to accept it.

Here’s my finished sailboat block.  The 12″ Summer Sailboat quilt pattern is now available on my shop .  Many thanks to those who have purchased it already.

That’s my One Monthly Goal finished, and I will be linking up with Patty at end of the month.  I really like the way this block turned out.  When I showed it to my husband, he initially thought I had painted it.  I love the crisp look that paper piecing provides!  I will be hand quilting puffy clouds on this one.

Happy Sewing,

An Online Quilt Trunk Show

Online Quilt Trunk Show | Whims And Fancies

Hi Everyone!  Nights have started to get cooler around here.  As I was taking quilts out for our beds and sofas, this idea of hosting an online quilt trunk show got stuck in my head.  I come across so many pretty creations all throughout the year on the blogs of my fellow quilters.  Wouldn’t it be nice to showcase some of your favourite creations on a blog post and link it up so that others can visit and admire your hard work?!

Here is my cordial invitation to all of you out there with blogs to Trunk Full Of Quilts – an online quilt trunk show event.

Choose your favourite FINISHED quilted projects.  They can be quilts, bags, pillows, wall hangings, etc.  They do not have be made in 2015, but they do have to be quilted and finished projects.

Write up a blog post including photos and a little description of each one.

On your blog post include a link back to the Whims And Fancies Trunk Full Of Quilts 2015 page.

Then come back here and link up!  That’s it!

The event will start on November 10th, 2015.  Link-ups will start on that day and close on November 18th.

I am not very fond of competition when it comes to art, so there will be no judges.  This event is all about simple, pure, sharing fun!  Just for participating, you will be entered to win prizes.

Everyone has been very supportive of this event so far and I am very thankful to these generous sponsors for providing prizes.  Along with my fellow pattern designers – Cheryl from Meadow Mist Designs, Lorna from Sew Fresh Quilts  and Beth from Cooking Up Quilts – I also have Aurifil Threads, Craftsy and Fat Quarter Shop sponsoring this event.  I will, of course, add something extra to the pot as well.  I will share more about the prizes on the opening day of the event.

Here is a little badge for you to share on your page.  Please invite others to participate.  The more the merrier, right?!  You can either save the image or copy and paste the text in the box below to share on your website –

We are going to have a fantastic time right before we get busy with the holidays!  So will you join me?!

I need to pick your brain on something.  Apart from arranging for this event, I have been working on this quilt pattern.  I really love to swim, specially at night, and I love the way light reflects in the water.  I drew this to make a quilt.

I can easily scale the design to make a lap-size quilt.  Do you think I should go for that or make a wall hanging?

Happy Quilting,
