I would love for you to meet my Story Book Teddy Bears.  They are two sisters.  They are in charge of all the stories that are being written at this very moment by people all over the world.  Of course, that would be too much work for just one little bear.  So they divide this enormous job between the two of them.

She takes care of the stories between the sunrise and sunset.

Her little sister then takes over while she rests a little.

I designed my little story book teddy bear quilt patterns on request, just before Christmas.  I couldn’t resist making them afterwards.

As I finished making one of them, the thought of the other one suddenly occurred to me.  I suppose such is the way of story book bears.

Stories can be told in so many ways.  I love to tell stories through paintings.

Daniel Smith Watercolor | Whims And Fancies

I picked up these three paints – Quinacridone Gold, Moon Glow and Indanthrone Blue.  I love the name Moon Glow.

Here is a sketch I finished in December.  I really wanted to paint this picture, and I also really wanted to use those colours.   Not a perfect match, but it was fun to use some unusual colours for the painting.

I see myself walking toward the viaduct despite the stormy sky.

We all have the power to weave a little tale of our own.  The little bears are muses, giving us a little nudge now and then.  If you want to make a story bear, the 10″ pattern is available on my shop.

Happy Storytelling,

Yarning For December

Knitted pullover for men | Whims And Fancies

Knitting is such a comforting and calming activity for me.  A few years ago, I started knitting and it stuck.  The prospect of working a piece of string with a couple of sticks to create a knitted cloth fascinates me.  Learning how to knit actual wearable clothes is quite exciting.  It is such a forgiving hobby too.  Worst case scenario, all you have to do is rip it apart and restart.

I did a lot of knitting in the month of December.  I showed a few photos in the previous Wandering Camera post.   I thought it would be nice to elaborate on my yarn endeavours of December.

I had been working on this sweater for my husband for quite a while now.  Following the pattern resulted in a really baggy sleeve.  Since my knitting skills are not much beyond apprentice level, I had to rip the first sleeve a couple of times before the sizing finally worked. I finished the sweater a few days ago.  I will share more once I block it.

Easy crochet blocks | Whims and Fancies

I was going through my cabinet and I found this set of crochet blocks.  I love the earthiness of the yarns and the simplicity of these blocks.  I don’t remember when I worked on them.  I also don’t remember why I stopped.  My last crochet project was so long ago, I don’t even remember how to crochet anymore.  So after a quick refresher course, I am ready to work on this one again.

Crochet Lace Blanket | Whims And Fancies

This is the one and only crochet project I have ever done.  If I was able to make this, then surely I should be able to finish the easy single crochet patchwork blanket.

Fingerless Mittens | Whims And Fancies

I really love making fingerless mitts.  They leave my fingers open to work my camera while keeping my palms warm.  As far as I am concerned, one can never have too many fingerless mitts.

I made this pair to give away as a celebration of Wandering Camera.  The winner of these mitts is Alycia.

I started working on another sweater already.  I hope you are getting to work on something that is soothing for you.
