An Online Quilt Trunk Show

Online Quilt Trunk Show | Whims And Fancies

Hi Everyone!  Nights have started to get cooler around here.  As I was taking quilts out for our beds and sofas, this idea of hosting an online quilt trunk show got stuck in my head.  I come across so many pretty creations all throughout the year on the blogs of my fellow quilters.  Wouldn’t it be nice to showcase some of your favourite creations on a blog post and link it up so that others can visit and admire your hard work?!

Here is my cordial invitation to all of you out there with blogs to Trunk Full Of Quilts – an online quilt trunk show event.

Choose your favourite FINISHED quilted projects.  They can be quilts, bags, pillows, wall hangings, etc.  They do not have be made in 2015, but they do have to be quilted and finished projects.

Write up a blog post including photos and a little description of each one.

On your blog post include a link back to the Whims And Fancies Trunk Full Of Quilts 2015 page.

Then come back here and link up!  That’s it!

The event will start on November 10th, 2015.  Link-ups will start on that day and close on November 18th.

I am not very fond of competition when it comes to art, so there will be no judges.  This event is all about simple, pure, sharing fun!  Just for participating, you will be entered to win prizes.

Everyone has been very supportive of this event so far and I am very thankful to these generous sponsors for providing prizes.  Along with my fellow pattern designers – Cheryl from Meadow Mist Designs, Lorna from Sew Fresh Quilts  and Beth from Cooking Up Quilts – I also have Aurifil Threads, Craftsy and Fat Quarter Shop sponsoring this event.  I will, of course, add something extra to the pot as well.  I will share more about the prizes on the opening day of the event.

Here is a little badge for you to share on your page.  Please invite others to participate.  The more the merrier, right?!  You can either save the image or copy and paste the text in the box below to share on your website –

We are going to have a fantastic time right before we get busy with the holidays!  So will you join me?!

I need to pick your brain on something.  Apart from arranging for this event, I have been working on this quilt pattern.  I really love to swim, specially at night, and I love the way light reflects in the water.  I drew this to make a quilt.

I can easily scale the design to make a lap-size quilt.  Do you think I should go for that or make a wall hanging?

Happy Quilting,
-Soma

Your quilt design really does look like light sparkling off the water at night. The trunk show is such a fun idea! thanks (do you know how I can change the picture from one of me to one of my quilts?)

I am so excited about the trunk show!!! Found out via Beth’s post today! Yay! It sounds like such fun! I really like your quilt design…I would always opt for a lap size, and like Lara, would have no problem hanging it on a wall too :) It brought to my mind those wonderful “reflections” fabrics of Violet Crafts’ :)

Your quilt design really does look like light sparkling off the water at night. It is such a modern and fresh design Soma! If it was me and I had the wall space, I would make it lap sized and still hang it on the wall. LOL, not much help, am I?
What a fun idea for your quilt show! I will add your button to my blog, but will have to wait and see if I can participate. Congratulations on all your wonderful sponsors!

Your online quilt trunk show does sound like a lot of fun. I love the idea of your light reflecting in the water hexagon quilt. Another clever design from the depths of your imagination. A lap quilt sounds wonderful.

I love the design you came up with, I can definitely see it as light reflecting off of water. Personally, I would make a lap quilt, just because it is more useful, but it would make a pretty and personal wall hanging.

A trunk show sounds great – especially since I wouldn’t have to deal with packing, shipping, hauling, and unpacking everything!

Your quilt design is lovely. I really like the idea of making it a lap quilt, so you can put it over yourself and imagine that you are under water.

What a great idea, Soma. Personally I would make a lap quilt, but then I always go bigger not smaller.

I guess it mostly depends on whether you want something to keep you warm this winter or you need something for your wall. I can see it on my wall or on my bed, either one. I like the explanation of the lights on the pool at night. I can easily see that in what you worked up.

Those are my favourite colours Soma! After making 10 lapquilts for wheelchairs, I am turning into a fan of smaller quilts…so I can see a lap quilt with some beautiful wave-like, and bubbles quilting on this quilt. :-)

This sounds like so much fun Soma! I’ll have to pare it down a bit as I have many favorite quilts! I added the button to my blog!
p.s. I’d go for a lap size quilt!

I have a question about your quilt trunk show … does it have to be a quilt we made ourselves, or could we showcase something made by a relative (MIL). I would love to join up with 2 quilts she made for my kids.
I think you got the shimmering water idea perfectly in the block setting. As a wall hanging, you would be able to see that shimmering effect all together. As a lap quilt, it might get lost and only look like random white and blue dots.

What a great idea for the Trunk Show – would love to promote and participate!! I think a lap size quilt with quilting echoing movement on the water would be wonderful – love the design.

I just started blogging so don’t think I have very much to offer that way. I do have a few quilts that I love and would love to show them to anyone who wants to look.

The Trunk Show is a great idea, Soma. I’ll add the button to my blog.

That water pattern is perfect. It looks exactly like a pool of water with light reflecting off of it. I’d make a wall quilt so I could look at it all of the time.

I am thinking, make it big enough to lay on after a night of swimming. It can be a lap quilt or a quilt to keep the wall warm during the winter (unless you are part polar bear and like swimming in ice water). LOL
