Hot Days Of Summer

August Sunset | Whims And Fancies

Taken with my cell shortly after dinner at a pho place

The outside temperature has been around 40C (104F) lately and I am determined not to expose myself even a little bit to the hot sun.  The quilts are all put away.  Even my quilt-addicted kitties are rolling up their mini quilts so they can sit on the cool, bare surfaces.  Yes, they bundle up their quilts with their forepaws when they don’t want to use them.  Hot summer days are perfect for rummaging through photos.  I did exactly that and found a few that I would love to share.

Icad 2015 Drawing Discards | Whims And Fancies

This is a photo of all the bits and pieces of discarded index cards.  I had to restart quite a few of them because of mistakes and bad or unexpected results.  The fanned-out stack of cards on the right is where I practised drawing circles over and over until I could draw them without having the marker leaving a darker dot at the start and stop points.  I couldn’t bear to throw those cards away.  When I get frustrated of my ineptness, they serve as a reminder of the age-old saying – Practice Makes Perfect.

Cold Pour Soap | Whims And Fancies

Recently I got a set of lovely soap moulds along with a set of essential oils from my DH.  The oils make the house smell amazing while the soap cures.  Now I have enough moulds to make a double batch of soap.

Quilt And Cats | Whims And Fancies

I used the Panorama feature of my phone to take this picture.  I am at the bottom left corner, being pinned down by these two kitties.  I was positively cooking under the bulk of the quilt and two hairy cats.  No wonder it took me so long to finish hand-sewing the binding of the Greekness quilt!

Quilt And Cats | Whims And Fancies

This was a few months ago.  I couldn’t sleep, so I worked on the binding of the Castles In The Air quilt.  I was glad of his company in those wee hours of the night.

Lastly, Fort Worth Fabric Studio featured my Aran Star pillow on their blog.  I am stoked!!

Thanks to my friends Susie and Lara, I entered this post to Pets On Quilts 2015

I hope you enjoyed photo-rummaging with me.  If you are in the area of this extreme heatwave we are having, I hope you stay safe and cool.

Until next time,

Love love your kitties! Seeing them, heavy, hairy and warm on you, most likely purring their heads off, makes me feel so calm. (feel the need to go grab my fluffy girl) Love seeing all your bits and pieces in this post…love the wizard cat too! Oh, and is that one of Molli’s Union Jacks I spy? I made one for my mum for her breakfast (lunch and supper, lol) tray. She loves to eat in front of her TV or outside when it’s nice out.

Your soaps look amazing! Your kittys look like two snugglers, my big guy will only snuggle is it is really cold or if I have been away for a while. Congrats on the quilt being featured, it is beautiful!

Phew! That’s warm. We’ve finally dropped down to the 95 degree range, and it’s more manageable. Of course, I’m inside all the time… Still love your work, and thank you again for your paper piecing tutorial, I am much better at it now!

So hot… poor you and all the wildlife Soma, indoors and out.
Congratulations on your Aran Star being featured at Fort Worth! That is a well deserved honor!
Even your discarded experimental cards are worth saving. The kitties make adorable quilt weights, although that feature is probably more appreciated in cooler weather. Glad you joined the show Soma!

I so enjoyed your reflections about life , and art in your household, Soma! You always have such interesting and diverse projects going on!
I am laughing about your kitties “bundling up their own little quilts” when it is really hot !! You have trained them well!
I think you should enter this post in the Pets on Quilts Show, at Lily Pad Quilting! You can enter “Cats On Quilts” today still, Little Renaissance Lady!

Now we are in the middle of summer and we only get above 20c about one day in 5 – which is nowhere near warm enough for me. Want to swap? Your cats are very good-looking :-). I like to see your practice cards – the one with the circles looks like it would be fun to play some more with. Also congratulations on having your lovely Aran star featured – not at all surprised they chose it!

It has been very warm here too and I was roasting under a quilt I was hand binding 2 nights ago. I did not have a kitty also on me, mine likes to sit across from me, watching to make sure I do a good job :)

You are much warmer than we are; it’s warm during the day, but tonight temps are dropping to 55. Perfect for binding a quilt! Your Wizard cat pattern is so cute, as are your cuddly helpers!

You guys are much warmer than we are down here. We hit 92* this past week, but I am sure our heat will come when the Santa Ana winds start to blow. I can’t imagine trying to bind that quilt with temperatures like that – much less with kitties added heat.

Your wizard kitty is so cute. I am glad you brought it back out. I also liked seeing your rejects in your cards.

I saw your star featured and was so pleased for you. It is such a pretty pillow and a great pattern.

I love the thought of the kitties rolling up their quilts like little bedrolls. We seem to have lost our heat again, it’s in the mid seventies with a brisk wind. I think we only hit 90 twice this summer and certainly saw our share of 50’s and 60’s…strange wet cold summer! I know what you mean about binding in the summer with a cat being too warm though, they are so determined to hold it down, aren’t they?

I certainly understand about the kitties making you warmer. My cat has to lay on top of me in bed and get lots of loving or lay right beside me. If I am sitting on the sofa he has to be in my lap. It’s nice in the cold weather, but not so much in the hot muggy weather.

Are my eyes deceiving me, or is THE Wizard Tabby Cat have curved piecing?

As far as your practice drawings go, they remind me of a lot of modern or even not so modern art I have seen hanging in art galleries or museums. Don’t throw them out, you never know–they might be very valuable years from now. :-)
