I bought this yellow yarn to make a pair of mittens, but I fell in love with the colour so much that I got a few more skeins to make a sweater for myself. Since the pattern is written for a negative-ease fit and I like to wear layered clothing, I made it a little larger than the suggested size and added a few extra stitches to the underarm area. Once I got over figuring out the sizing, it was a very quick knit with this chunky yarn. I am in love with seamless sweater patterns, by the way. It’s so nice not to have to join all the pieces afterwards.
My only complaint was that the neck ended up a little too wide for me. So I crocheted two rounds of single crochet to fix it. That also gave the neck band nice stability. Any advice you may have to make the neck a little smaller would be much appreciated, perhaps a smaller set of needles?
Although it fits me very well, I am still a little self-concious when I wear it because it’s the first sweater I have ever made for myself. It’s so comfortable that I am sure I will get over that soon enough. The Oatmeal sweater pattern by Jane Richmond is available on Ravelry. It’s really a very well-written pattern.
Apart from knitting I am also working on a custom pattern and a couple of new quilts. However, I thought that instead of showing you my WIPs today, I would share a few finishes made by others using my patterns.
Purchase Fields On Camera Pattern
This camera pillow was made by Lyndsey using the Fields On Camera pattern. She has only been sewing for a year. I was really amazed by her workmanship. I think it looks fantastic!!
Very recently, Kathleen has become a grandmother. She made this sweet baby quilt from the Morning star pattern. So much love went into making this quilt to welcome the new baby. Such a happy finish!!
Until next time,
-Soma

That sweater is amazing. I hope to learn to knit someday. The color really is gorgeous.

LOVE your sweater!! I’m a knitter too and I also just love the seamless sweaters! Seaming is my enemy, so anything I can do to avoid it is awesome. LOVE the camera pillow too!! I may have to go add that pattern to my collection :-) Visiting from TGIFF.

Oooh… I love that camera pillow. I’m tempted to download that pattern (or at least pin it for later!) Thanks for linking up with TGIFF!

Beautiful sweater. I think you chose an ideal solution for the neckline problem. If you make the same pattern again you could try a few fewer stitches or smaller needles, but a neckline too wide that you can add to later is always better than one too small to get your head through!

I love your sweater!! That is incredible

Your sweater is beautiful! I’ve done some knitting but never done a sweater. It’s too intimidating for me. You did a great job and I love the crochet finish that you did on the neck. It gave a nice finished look. Your other quilt projects are also beautiful.

Wow! Anyone who finishes a whole entire sweater is a hero in my opinion! Beautiful work

I love this color and the design you have chosen to knit. I like how the crochet looks around the neck too.

Beautiful job on the sweater and I agree with you on those pesky seams. For the neckline, you could consider knitting a few more rows of the ribbing, decreasing needle size if you want. The wider ribbing band at the neck would look fine since the ribbing is also wider at the sleeves and bottom. The other alternative is to wear a lovely print scarf. Because the sweater is such a classic style and color, your options for the scarf are pretty much unlimited.

I love your sweater! You should wear it with pride that you made something so beautiful.

As a very basic knitter, I am amazed at how incredible this sweater looks. The colour and style is fantastic and you should wear it with pride!

This jumper looks fantastic! congrats on such a lovely finish. It looks really snug and comfortable with the big rib and I really like the neck edge addition :)

I just LOVE this sweater! The colour is so nice, and will be great for fall weather. I’m sorry I can’t help with the neck as I’ve never knit a sweater before. I like the relaxed look of this sweater, and you should not be embarrassed to wear it … it’s gorgeous! The sewing projects by others are so nice too.
Enjoy your day!

Well that sure is a lovely, golden sweater. I can see why you feel a little self conscious wearing it, because people are sure to notice it and compliment you on it. Just smile and be proud! You might even meet fellow knitters. That happened to me once with a bag.
Kathleen’s Morningstar quilt is so pretty and Lyndsey’s Fields on Camera pillow is so cool – great designs Soma! It is really wonderful that you show off their work here.

Beautiful sweater, Soma. I think you did a wondeful job!
Smaller needles would help, but also you might try decreasing sts; however, your solution looks great.
The quilt and camera pillow are so nice…I like both patterns.

Nice job on the sweater Soma!! Wow! Now you need to knit a sweater for that hanger so it’s more puffy and won’t leave pointy marks in the shoulders! :)
Lyndsey’s camera pillow came out great too. Love how she quilted it.

I love your sweater. That is one of my favorite colors too. The idea of crochet at the neck worked great. I’ll bet changing to smaller needles would have done the trick too.
Lyndsey and Kathleen both did a great job with your patterns.

This is beautiful :) The color is perfect! What a talent you have for knitting. Now you and the hubs are ready for camping, yes?!

YOU! Are an awesome knitter, too!! Your sweater is so pretty! And well done! I think the crochet around the neckline was a perfect size adjustment!! This post has stirred up a memory: My mother knit a red sweater, similar in style to yours, when she was young. She kept it, and when we were teenagers, my sister and I both wore it.
And how fun to see your patterns made by others!! They are beautiful.
