Wandering Camera – Old York Pub

Purchase Old York Pub Painting | Whims And Fancies

Purchase Old York Pub

Hello Everyone!  Welcome to this month’s Wandering Camera.  Before I continue with today’s post, I have something personal to share.  After looking for a house that we can call home for a very long time, my husband and I finally found one a couple of weekends ago.  All things are now set in motion and hopefully we will be moving by mid to late next month.

I took this photo when we went to see the house.  It has a beautiful backyard with very old Ash trees and a giant Redwood tree.

I would love to have an old wrought iron street light placed somewhere in the new house.  I am very fond of them.

Gamla Stan In Stockholm

I love these lights hanging from the brick walls of pubs or cafes in old cities, welcoming people inside after a long countryside walk or to just relax a little by the fireside after travelling a long way.

Not surprising that I found myself painting one such street light hanging above a door.

I enjoyed painting the weathered walls, specially the bricks.

This old street lights invokes thoughts of not just travelling, but also art, history, architecture and stories from medieval times.  York is such a lovely historic English city that both of us came up with the idea together of calling this painting Old York Pub.

I now have prints of this painting available in my shop.

Thank you for all the wonderful comments, and for sharing your photos with me. I love visiting you and reading a bit about your world, where you have been visiting and what you have been creating.

Congratulations on finding your new home Soma – it sounds wonderful and the photo shows a beautiful neat yard with plenty of room and those all important trees and shrubs.
I loved your Old York Street Light as soon as I saw it on Instagram and to see further details and read your thoughts here is really nice. The brickwork detail is great, you’ve achieved that lovely weathered look.

Wow – what a wonderful backyard your new house will have! I walked a street similar to your Stockholm street, but it was Seville and there were a few geranium pots hanging from the walls. Lovely painting.

So glad you have found your new home, Such a beautiful garden, so re;axing. I must visit York again – it has been too long and really it is just at the ‘top of the motorway’, although easier by train! Absolutely love your evocative painting, thank you for sharing.

I’m so glad that I arranged for us to travel to York when we were in England. I remembered vaguely the Minster, and those steps! We climbed them all again, quite the experience.Love your painting, and those cobblestone streets in Stockholm. Such history in Europe…

I love your painting of the street lamp. Your photo of the cobbled street in Gamla Stan brought back memories of our Baltic cruise several years ago. I will go through my photos and get some inspiration to do a watercolour as I haven’t painted for a while. Thanks for sharing.
