Welcome to this month’s Wandering Camera! A couple of days ago I was plopped on the sofa, balancing my sketchbook, a tiny jar of water, palette, paint and brush on a little board. While looking out toward the blooming flowers in our modest little flower garden, I was doing a practice sketch of a Shooting Star. That set the stage for today’s Wandering Camera.
There is an easy mountain trail about a half hour’s drive away from our home. I love to spot various wildflowers along that trail and photograph them.
As I was taking the photos, I commented on how some of them are growing like weeds. My husband laughed and pointed out that wildflowers are weeds!
Weeds are a gardener’s bane, specially the horrible kinds that grow in the flowerbeds. However, I do voluntarily grow a few wildflower “weeds” in my garden. Many Thanks to my friend Mary for sharing her Larkspur seeds with me so readily.
I just realised that this post marks a whole year of Wandering Camera. Last year Wandering Camera Revival started with my sharing photos of these Larkspurs from my garden –
I am linking up with the linky parties on my Events And Links page. Please pay a visit to some of them.

Definitely wild flowers and not weeds! What a beautiful selection to come across.

Lovely photos. Some wildflowers or weeds are really beautiful even dandelions.

Your flower photos are beautiful, Soma. I love whatever you are doing to the backgrounds to really showcase the details of the flowers :)

Congratulations on your 1-year anniversary of the Wandering Camera revival. A worthy endeavor, indeed! As you know, I am a nut about flowers, so I enjoyed your post very much. I laughed out loud about the “weed” comment. I was on a walk recently with a very good friend of mine, and while she focused on the weeds that needed to be eradicated (she is a rancher). I focused on the wildflowers. And sometimes, they were the same plant!

How very beautiful!

Your wildflower photos are wonderful. I loved your comment about wildflowers and weeds. My dad was in the Forest Service in the west when I was a kid and had degree in range management. He was firmly on the side of wildflowers being weeds. Except in our own yard where his motto was “If it is green then it is good.”
Have a great week!!

Beautiful photos! Weeds are just wildflowers growing in the wrong place!
Popping over from Sunday Snap.

What beautiful flowers! Thanks for sharing! And thanks for linking up to the monthly furtle!

Lovely shots! I think the line between flower and weed can be a very fine one. Mostly I am relaxed about things self-seeding/spreading in my garden, as long as their flowers are pretty enough.

Your drawings and photos are exquisite in their beautiful simplicity.

Spectacular macro shots! I’m not much of a flower photographer, but we’ve been getting so many great blooms this year I find myself taking more and more wildflower (or are they weeds??) shots!!

Jennifer Jilks May 31, 2019 at 04:15
Such inspiration! Congratulations on the year.
My hubby says that gardening is 90% weeding, removing stuff you don’t want there. I have twitch grass, otherwise I love the flowering stuff. I don’t weed the wildflowers.
Sue Palmer May 31, 2019 at 02:28
Beautiful flowers, love the blue one with the white centre. Your macro photos are stunning. Love your painting too.
Valerie-Jael May 31, 2019 at 00:39

I have always considered weeds are only weeds if you don’t like them. There are a few weeds with pretty flowers in my garden and they are here to stay. Your photos of the wildflowers are sublime, Soma. How on earth do you perform your magic?? Love the watercolour painting too.

Hi Soma such pretty flowers love the colours, happy first blogaversary and may there be many more my friend xx
Susan May 30, 2019 at 19:09
Beautiful pictures. All these are flowers, not weeds. When they are not the flowers we want in our gardens we call them weeds. Wild flowers are aptly named. They are wild, not cultivated. And yes, I have some “obnoxious plants” in my garden that I pull out on a continual basis. I have enjoyed looking at all your photography through your wandering camera.
Mary May 30, 2019 at 16:33
The flowers are so pretty. That first one looks as though it has to be fake with that perfect bead of pearls in the center. Your painted one is gorgeous too. Those colors are incredible. You have such an eye for detail.
BillieBee May 30, 2019 at 12:00
Love your photo garden and your own design.
